Session 07-20-08

Accepted job from Lord Warden's to deal with kobolds in Kolbold's Hall.

Armos Khelroth called the Lord Warden's (Faren Marklehay) rule into question. Lord needs help clearing his name. Kamroth issued challenge, saying Lord's family shouldn't be in charge, but his own should be. The real rulers should be able to produce the legendary sword of Vendar (a local hero). Vendar was a legendary hero. known to have splain a dragon. Sword hasn't been seen for centuries, Vendar broke it into peices, and true champion will retrieve it. The peices are lost. We can speak with Lord's wife about details.

Visited the Lord's wife, Lady Allende. Sword is referred to as "Honor's call", borken into 3 peices: blade, hilt, and pommel. It is said that the fallen lord (name unknown) of the keep that is now Kobold's Hall will have knowledge of the legendary sword, hints on the back of his shield (a map perhaps). We agreed to look into this, inquiring into compensation. We were told to ask the Lord about compensation, but the lord was not available for inquiry.

Amnon was intrigued by the two separate paths coallescing into a single destination, and also vowed vengence against a rude guard.

We headed to the hall, resting about halfway there for the night, then reached the Hall at midday the following day. The keep was old, crumbling and covered with vegetation, bones, and vandalism. Unable to scout or break in through less obvious means, we were forced to enter the keep through the front doors. Upon entering we were temporarily stiffled by a staircase that was slosed in on itself, until Vhale's clever dwarven instinct revealed an opening mechanism hidden on the back of a desicrated statue. The staircase opened into darkness...

With a magically lit shield (thanks to Kyden's cleverness), Vhale led the way dopwn the stairs where we encountered our first opponent! Fortunatley, partway into the battle, our heroic Dragon Born Ranger joined us, boosting our moral. After a short battle, in which Kyden was spooged to a wall, we slew our first opponent (and all of its lackys), thereby losing our adventurer virginity.

Examining the kolbold shields, we noticed some white skull symbols. Amnon recalled this symbol being associated with the Skull Kicker tribe. Kreig, memories triggered by the mention of the Skull Kickers, followed this knowledge with a recollection that this tribe worshipping Tiamat, and traveled here from the Winter Bowl forest.

After the battle, we caught a lone kobold that was cowering in a corner and Dravin intimidated answers out of him regarding the complex. We learned that the structure had 4 more areas with the last area holding a kobold leader in a throne room. We also learned that this kobold leader answered to his own master, something or someone that they referred to as their "god". In a fit of consciense, despite Amnon's distaste, Dravin drug the kobold outside, freeing him from captivity and saving him from death.

Exploring the keep further, we discovered a room full of sarcafigi (sp?), suits of armor with crossbows that shot at us, a few kobolds, and a shrine. We discovered the shrine was dedicated to Tiamat and contained an offering of 60 gp. Vhale made his own offering to Tiamat in the form of bodily processed Dwarven Ale.

Session 07-24-08

We fought more kobolds, and some of their vicious, green drake guards. While the kobolds proved to be troubleseom, their green drakes proved to be quite deadly while working together. The kobolds did, however, show themselves to be clever beasts. Each room we entered was litered with cleverly designed traps that made combat with them and their guards quite difficult. In one instance, even our esteemed mage was even fooled by their guile, misiterpreted the path of a huge, rolling boulder.

When we were forced break for the session, we ended the night in the midst of a heated battle with several kobolds, including a magic weidling shaman of some sort.

Session 07-27-08

We finished on the kobolds and their wand-wielding leader. Fortuantely, the rolling boulder trap stopped functioning part way through the second half of this encounter, simplifying things a bit. Once we finished them off, we searched the dead kobolds' bodies finding little of value other than the wand that was wielded by the magical-casting kobold, which Kayde claimed ownership of. Also, on the kobold magic users, we found a silver key with note, "Door finished key included." Vhale, seeing this, and recalling earlier mention of a kobold master's master, something about Tiamat, and his own insight, decided that this would somehow lead us to another drake, or a minor dragon. Unfortunatley, as we would discover later, he was correct.

There was an old tomb in the center of this room, which we searched. Amnon, in searching it, saw the shield which he recognized as a family crest. Unfortunately, the crest was so dilapidated we were unable to make out the its details. Vhale reminded us that the lord-lady told us that the "Lord of the house held a clue as to where the sword lay hidden on the back of his shield". Assuming the crest was the shield that the lady's words referred to, we tried to pick it up, but it crumbled in our hands. Amnon tried to examine it for magical residue, but found none on the shield. Amnon did, however, see that there was a magical presence somewhere in the tomb. Krieg, intrigued, searched deeper and found a solid object hung around the entomed warrior's neck. The object turned out to be a necklace, the cord of which broke, though from it hung a fairly large, shield-shaped pendant possibly made of gold, rusted with age (didn't know gold rusted, but whatever). On the back of this pendant, there were tiny points of light, almost like stars. Unfortunatley, we were unable to work out a pattern or any other meaning from the pendant.

We ended up using the silver key to open a nearby door, which lead into a very cold cavern. Amnon was cautious at this point, not feeling at home at all in the cold. In the cavern, there was a large pool, which was frozen solid. Hidden in the back of the room, in the frigid shadows, we saw the real master of this fortress. From out of the darknesss, amid swirling mists, a large white dragon crept toward us with menace in its eyes.

A furious and extended battle erupted in the freezing cavern. Arrows, spells, and breath weapons flew through the air. Vhale's mighty warhammer and Dravin's trusty blade met tooth and claw in fury that we had never seen before. Blood poured from us all, with some wounds threatening to silence our heroics before they had really begun. In the end however, our coordination and combined wits and strength won the day. We felled the beast in his own lair, brininging a bit a quite to the vale, and doing our part as it's self-appointed protectors. It was a glorious victory and we had fought hard to earn it.

With the threat extinguished, we searched the lair and discovered a chest. Iside the chest we found treasure, including a magical bastard sword, a fitting tool for our Warlord. Exhausted, we made camp in the wyrm's lair, resting for several hours as the chill in the place began to wane with the beasts demise.

Today the party, without the help of amnon who unfortunately had a bad case of diarrhea, decided to explore the information they gathered the previous day. The party after being ambushed by a kobold brigade questioned a female halling and found that Irontooth and Kalarel had another site, an excavation site, some miles away from the kobold lair where they were actively searching for an item of some power... perhaps to aid in their summons? The party checked out the excavation site, otherwise known as the dragon ruins, and found a group of kobolds seemingly led by a scarred gnome. After dipatching the group of kobolds, drakes, and lesser races (read: gnome and halfling) the party searched the camp and found a prisoner known as Douvan Stall. Stall was a researcher of some sort captured by the band to help in their recovery of their artifact. AFter releasing him the party escorted him back to town. Their gnome leader of the band tried to go invisible as a last ditch effort to escape, vhale invoking the luck of avandra managed to hit his invisible foe and drop him giving access to his Amulet of health +1 and a +1 crossbow krieg has refused to use Smile. The party was unable to locate the artifiact but krieg managed to find tracks leading toward the kobold lair perhaps meaning a messenger took with him the artifiact to his master (Stall earlier had thought he heard the kobolds had recovered said item)

After a night's rest in town we decided to take on the kobold lair itself which we believe may house Irontooth and Kalarel. We headed off fully rested and prepared and successfully took out the guard units outside the waterfall entrance. There were no casualties despite krieg being sufficiently gangbanged by no less than 5 scrawny kobolds. However Vhale's hands and Dravin's words were enough to bring him back to sufficient health to shoot down the multiple runners that attempted to warn the lair of their own impending doom.

Also, the treasury is updated, sorry i've been slacking

Today dragon force made our initial foray into Shadowfell Keep that seems to have a direct tie to the plane of darkness. We managed to get a hold of Winterhaven's resident wizard and scholar, Valthrun, at the inn in town. He was easy enough to win over; a round of drinks and some warm company and he opened right up to us. He told us that the target of our quest, Kalarel, could most likely be found within this keep. Being that this forgotten and potentially haunted keep seems to have a rift tying it to the plane of darkness it would seem a logical place for a ritual of Orcus to occur. Valthrun also warned us that the old lord of the keep Sir Keegan has been known to still roam the halls. We have yet to encounter him and expect the worst if we do... although who knows maybe ghosts dislike Orcus cultists more than a motley crew of glory seekers. In a rare moment of tactfulness and grace Amnon managed to convince Valthrus for his help in acquiring a ritual of some kind. Valthrus was actually happy to oblige free of charge as we were defending "his town".

After a good night's rest and individual preperations were made we headed out to Shadowfell keep some 5 miles to the north. Upon reaching the ruined keep and traveling down it's recently trodden steps we immediately fell into a battle against these cursed kobolds and goblins, do these vermin ever end?! Even without the help of our tactical leader Dravin, who volunteered to lead and prepare a potential defense against these cultists in case we failed, we managed to down the wretched things and continue exploring the keep. We then encountered a another group of patrolmen consisting of a hobgoblin scorpion and bugbear , damn do those smelly things hurt. Finally at the crux of our exploration so far we encountered 3 brawny humans fully tattooed head to toe and covered with scars lead by a hobgoblin torturer in the middle of his brutal work on a woman from the town. The battle was hardfought and the situation looked dire near the end but we came at victorious, just barely. Unfortunately, we were unable to save the woman as the hobgoblin sadist slowly killed her before we could reach her. After the humans were downed and retribution enacted against her torturer Vhale checked the pulse of the bloodied women only to find were seconds too late.

After an emotional and loud display of anguish over the murdered townswoman, the party found a math based riddle on the torturer and as we came to find out jailer that led us to find a goblin named Splug. Even after Amnon's short questioning and Vhale's assistance testing the heathen's knack for telling the truth, they concluded Splug would indeed help us in our quest to rid the keep of the infestation of false worshippers. Vhale still has his doubts on the merit of the goblin as he would never fully trust a filthy heathen of the lesser races

Next up on our list of slaughter: Balgronn First Lieutenant to Kalarel

We also got 475 exp, 2300 total so level on up to 3rd level with your new encounter powers, woohoo!
